Gebs : Moroccan Plaster Art

Gebs الجبس, meaning gypsum in Arabic, originated in the 14th century as part of  Nasrid art in Granada, Spain. Inspired by the breathtaking arabesque and geometric patterns seen in the Alhambra Palace, Moroccan plaster designs continue the lineage of this ornament for ceilings, walls, and arches.

Marrakech Designs is a design resource for traditional Moroccan  plasterwork for architects, interior designers, and individuals. Our hand-carved and mold-made gebs are made by our master plaster artisan workshop who carries on the historic  tradition of Islamic gypsum plaster art.

As a living craft and cultural heritage, the art of geb plaster is at risk of fading away. Through collaboration with our skilled Moroccan plaster artisans, we are committed to preserving and promoting this exquisite decorative art.
